my first sunday in uganda is almost at its end. but i had a great day full of experience. caro, my fellow carpenter and i went up to kauku (still don`t know how to write it, it is the village next to the kids of africa village) and we met charles, the ugandian carpenter who`s working with us. he showed us around in kauku and took us to the st. josephs technical institute where he learnt how to do carpenters work. it was amazing to see the old machines they are still using, it looked quite dangerous. here is an example:
after that, we went to his parents place for some fruits (one of them smells like raclette, a swiss cheese, but taste like a fruit, sweet and good) and a coke. his parents place is very beautifull, it made me think about buying a ground round there and build my house on it.
then he invited us to his own place. it`s a tiny building at the street to kampala, just two rooms for him, his wife and his six childrens. we had a talk inside and the neighbours kids came too to see us, they`re not used to white people. we asked him if we could do any favours for him as an appreciation, but he said that he doesn`t need anything and that he is thankful for our friendship. it felt very genuine.
then we had to go back to kids of africa. we collected some sodas and chips at a store and took a boda-boda (that`s a motorcycle used as a taxi for up to three people including the driver) to the village.
now it is dinnertime, caro cooked pasta!
all the best!
