kampala bäääm

at first sight kampala isn`t that interesting. thousand little shops on overstrained streets, some skyscraper, some hotels and restaurants. but there is, surprisingly (at least to me), an other side of ugandas capital. some examples: there is brood, a bakery/café that you can find in amsterdam, den haag, harlem and kampala. there is 1000 cups café house, where you get café from all over the world in a chilled, jazz-bar atmosphere. there is tulifanya art gallery, where you can have a look at local and interafrican artists (or their art) and enjoy some rösti or spätzli, prepared by a swiss cook. there is kasubi tombs, an unesco world heritage site where the buganda kings are buried, and where the first european explorers met king mutesa I. there is soho grill, an über-stylish restaurant that wouldn`t be out of place in any major town in europe. there is cayenne, a night-club where young (mostly young, these old muzungus look strange when they dance...) folks hang out to celebrate and dance to dj-tunes under the open sky (i was pretty suprised by the big number of young westeners hanging out there). all together it gave me the impression that kampala is just on the edge to a hip city.

to be honest, i had a culture shock!
